Having my photo taken by Anthony was way more pleasant than I expected. I think I actually look good in the photo too! Happy all round. We are proud to acknowledge that the Wangal and Gadagal people lived in the areas we work in for thousands of years before a British Penal colony was established in 1788.
The Wangal and Gadagal territory extended from Bondi to Darling Harbour to Homebush Bay, with the Parramatta River as the northern boundary.
They are one of 29 clans of the Eora Nation.
This land was never ceded and Aboriginal people are still waiting for a treaty from the Australian Government and an apology from the British Government.
The History Of Homepix
The journey to get to where we are now spans decades.
In 1982 I got a job at Zelox, they were a part of George’s Camera Store owned by George Weiss.
George was a great guy, he started a photography empire with stores around Australia.
Terry Rimmer was his MD and a powerhouse in the printing industry. Clifford J Evans was my boss and taught me how to play guitar. I still play and still own his 1980 Maton Coolabah. many pro guitarists have told me that it is the most mellow, clean sounding guitar they have ever played.
In 1984 I first started working as a photographer. I was 19 and got a Job at Pixie Photography.
They let me drive around my state of New South Wales in a new company Ford panel van.
I remember driving to north western NSW to a town called Bourke. To get to Bourke I drove from Cobar, a crazy 200km, at night, on a red dirt road. It had rained days before and the van lost the sign off the roof and was covered in red mud. The kangaroos and wild boar just missed me a couple of times. I couldn’t stop or I would have gotten bogged and not found for days.
Some kids in Bourke got a thrill as I gave them $20 to wash it, $20 in 1984 was like $200 today.
They made it look like new.
Besides the crazy adventures I had the honour of meeting wonderfull family’s like the Normans. My photos are still in thousands of lounge rooms all over Australia.
In 1987 I sold everything and moved to Britain chasing an English girl I met in Sydney.
While there I met Joe Coonan the director of Westminster Advertising. Joe gave me a glowing reference for assisting in photographic projects. Besides helping Joe I worked at Harkwell Labels and tags as a production controller for two factories, one in Walthamstow and one in Washington, Tyne and Wear. We produced millions of labels for the textile market. Hello to Krissie and Jess. Someone else who helped me out in Ol’ Blighty was Mark Hansen, my best boss, a geltleman with a lovely family.
Returning to Australia in 1990 I walked right into a major recession. Photography is like the canary in the coal mine and dried up as discretionary spending stopped.
So off I went to TAFE for 4 years and got qualified as an Electro Mechanical Technician. I repaired Neopost machines in the mail sector. They gave me a company car and away I went.
Working as a tech was great fun, now I can fix anything, give me a schematic diagram and the parts and move aside. It also helps to set up my photographic studios.
In 1995 I left and went to back to photography. It was a tough slog to get clients like Estee Lauder and David Jones. In the end I was delivering food at night to make ends meet. One night I was delivering Indian food and someone cut me off.
The curry hit the dashboard and made the car stink so bad that I sold it.
My brother and his wife started a newspaper in the education space. It was 1997 and they put me on as their photographer. That lasted a few memorable years working alongside Tina until I got a job at Fox Studios in Moore Park. Yep, I worked for Murdock.
Life at Fox was odd to say the least. They made the “Matrix” Star Wars, Moulin Rouge etc
With my trusty Nikon F5 I captured the early daze, yep, daze. What mayhem, working on James Cameron’s Titanic as Officer Rice, I was poor but happy.
Sitting in the green room one day I read in the old Sydney Morning Hearld broad sheet that Neopost was looking for a national head tech for the Sydney office. Thats me. I won tech of the year 3 times was sent off to Canada, Singapore and Uluru. After 5 years change was in the wind.
My partner Rose said that I was not doing what I loved, photography. We both quit our jobs and opened Chow Bella cafe. The Idea was to run the cafe while starting the photography business.
We sold our cafe in 2011 and Homepix Photopgraphy was born.
We have concetrated on commercial and corporate and business photography. We have built a good stable clients who we work with. As an accredited professional photographer with decades of experience I know how to keep my clients happy. I treat clients like I want to be treated. I want to exceed their expectations.
Consistant top quality, really fast turn around, in fact the client can get their images instantly. AI is now here and it makes my workflow easier.

Actors, Ben Mendelsohn, Rachel Griffiths AM, Susie Porter, Sigrid Thornton AO, Bill Hunter etc the list goes on. The only person to ever get me nervious was taking photos of Pele. The great man was given the honour of sportsman of the century. I was at the retirement of Les Murray and he invited his friend Pele to be his last interview. Pele looked like he floated in on a flying carpet. He looked at me and smiled, my heart went into my throat. He laughed and kindly waited for me to get it together.
